Bio

Shelley Dedman is a 19-year-old philosophy student from San Diego. She is fascinated by the small details most people do not take the time to notice -- the sharp edges of individual blades of grass on a spring day, the subtle shimmer of a dime dropped on the ground in the blazing sun, the tiny features of insects usually swatted away.

Shelley describes her art as "macropainting," which she defines as taking normally small objects and blowing them up on a canvas. Macropainting focuses on taking the miniature and enlarging it to show the fine detail.

Shelley works in acrylics. When she was thirteen, she received her first tube of paint from her great grandmother, who enjoyed painting as well. When her granny’s failing sight impeded her art, Shelley inherited her tools and has carried on the hobby ever since.

Shelley is self-taught, but takes painting very seriously. She loves color and light. And turtles. Are the two related? Possibly.
